This chocolate strawberry overnight oats recipe sounds like dessert, but it’s an easy, on-the-go breakfast that’s nourishing and delicious!
While it’s nice to have go-to recipes and plan your meals when possible, it can be easy to have a meal too many times and get sick of it. I do this a lot with breakfast and definitely try to mix things up when I can, whether it’s switching a meal entirely or trying different flavor combinations.
I’m a fan of overnight oats because they’re simple to make, save me time in the morning, usually keep me full until lunchtime, and there are so many different ways you can make them. Some recipes I’ve already shared on here include:
Peanut Butter Banana
Lemon Blueberry Coconut
Coconut Mocha
Pecan Pumpkin Pie
And now this delicious chocolate strawberry recipe!
I have been eating mostly peanut butter banana overnight oats lately and was starting to get bored of them, when my friend Marissa mentioned adding cocoa powder and strawberries to oats. Why did I never think of this?!
There are six ingredients that make up this breakfast: oats, cacao (or cocoa) powder, chia seeds, strawberries (even better if they’re fresh from the farmers market), milk (I usually go with almond), and vanilla. You could also add a little honey or maple syrup to sweeten it a bit, and/or some protein powder to keep you full even longer. It’s like a chocolate covered strawberry, but in breakfast form.
If you haven’t already, I hope you give overnight oats a chance! After trying this recipe, you’re sure to be obsessed with them, too.
Chocolate Strawberry Overnight Oats

This chocolate strawberry overnight oats recipe sounds like dessert, but it’s an easy, on-the-go breakfast that’s nourishing and delicious!
You'll Need...
- ½ cup oats*
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds**
- 1 tablespoon cacao (or cocoa) powder
- 5-10 strawberries, cut into bite-sized pieces
- ¾ cup milk of choice
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon honey or pure maple syrup (optional)
Directions
- Add oats, chia seeds, cacao, strawberries, milk, and vanilla to a jar and mix well.
- Let it sit overnight in the fridge, or at least a couple hours.
- Remove from fridge, stir, and top with more strawberries if desired.
Additional Notes
*You can use quick or old fashioned. Quick oats soak up the liquid more, so you may need to add another splash of milk before eating.
**I prefer ground chia in mine, because whole chia seeds get a gel around them and get stuck in my teeth. I grind the seeds in a coffee grinder, but you could also use a spice mill, food processor, blender, or mortar and pestle. The seeds get fluffy once ground and take up more space, so make sure you pack it into the measuring spoon to get the full tablespoon.
