When you want the flavors of Chinese takeout but prefer something healthier to make at home, try this teriyaki shrimp and broccoli!
I’m not on a diet and I don’t do “cheat days,” but when Zack and I feel like getting something not so good for us, we don’t pick pizza or burgers and french fries, we are all about the Chinese takeout. Every time we get it we end up ordering enough for a family of four because we just get so excited.
I always get Singapore Mai Fun, which is really good spicy noodles with all kinds of meat and veggies thrown in, and crabmeat rangoons, and Zack usually goes for the General Tso’s chicken, fried rice, and egg rolls. So why am I telling you all this? Because it is OKAY to eat unhealthy every once in awhile and enjoy something you wouldn’t normally eat. We rarely get Chinese takeout, but when we do it’s special and we truly enjoy every bite of it.
The good thing is, you can make healthier versions of the foods you love too! When we don’t feel like getting takeout, but want those flavors, I make my chicken stir fry or this teriyaki shrimp and broccoli.
This recipe is actually super duper simple. The best part about it? It’s a one pan meal! Cook the shrimp and broccoli, add the sauce, and you’re done! The sauce is very similar to the one in my chicken stir fry recipe, with a few variations. It’s full of great flavor from the coconut aminos, ginger, garlic, and honey, giving the meal just enough sweetness.
Like the majority of my recipes, you can work with what you already have in your kitchen. Don’t have shrimp? Use chicken or beef. No broccoli? Substitute any veggies. Just remember the cooking times may vary depending on what ingredients you choose.
If you’re like me and absolutely love getting Chinese takeout for dinner, but you’d like a healthier version to make yourself, this teriyaki shrimp and broccoli is for you!
When you want the flavors of Chinese takeout but prefer something healthier to make at home, try this teriyaki shrimp and broccoli! *Fun tip: you can spiralize a broccoli stem! You can also freeze broccoli pieces to add to smoothies.Teriyaki Shrimp and Broccoli

**Another fun tip: keep your ginger in the freezer. It will last longer than storing it in the fridge.
***When cooking the shrimp and broccoli, it’s important for the shrimp to be on the bottom of the pan with the broccoli on top. This makes sure the shrimp cooks, while the broccoli steams.

Yesss! You just have to make sure you get broccoli with a big enough stem. Here’s a how-to video http://inspiralized.com/how-to-spiralize-broccoli-video/. Thanks Katherine 🙂
